Pooch Protection: 5 Things to Know about Keeping Your Dog Safe
You may already know that delivering natural gas safely is our highest priority. But did you know that our Core Value of Safety extends to your dog?#1 Keep your dogs in a secure location — The best way to keep your dog and our field technicians safe is to place your dog in a secure location away from where our work will take place, including the natural gas meter.
#2 Let us know if you have a dog — If we have an appointment at your home or office:
- Let Customer Service know about your dog when scheduling the appointment.
- Make sure dogs are away from the door and locked in another room when our technicians greet you.
- Advise the technician that a dog is present or let them know it is in the yard.
#3 Our work could be delayed — Our technicians will not approach your home if unsecured dogs are at or near your location. We will reschedule appointments if we feel unsafe or threatened by a dog. Placing your dog in a secure location keeps everyone safe and allows important work to continue.
#4 Even friendly dogs can bite — Your dog loves you! But you don’t know what they might perceive as a threat to themselves or you. Every breed, at any age, can become aggressive and attack people. Please help keep us all safe.
#5 We train our technicians to protect themselves — Unfortunately, our technicians have been injured by aggressive dogs. Technicians look for signs of a dog, even if one isn’t expected, and are trained not to startle them. They will not approach a dwelling if unsecured dogs are at or near it. As a last resort, technicians are trained to use self-defense tools to deter aggressive animals. Keeping our employees safe is critical to us, but as dog owners, too, we care deeply about your furry family members!
