This summer at ONE Gas, 18 talented college students have stepped into their roles as industry innovators and future leaders. These interns, far from the stereotypical image of coffee-fetching novices, are actively shaping the company’s trajectory and the customer experience.
Among them are Bryant from the University of Kansas and Quan from Kansas State University, both engineering interns at Kansas Gas Service.
Bryant contributed to important areas involving relocation and replacement projects. Beyond the office, he participates in field visits – an integral part of his learning process. These site visits provide invaluable insights, bridging the gap between his engineering designs and practical application.
“I feel like I learn more when I’m able to see the site for myself,” Bryant said. “Whenever I get the chance to go into the field, I can connect it to things and learn faster.”
In Wichita, Quan contributed to a new development project, verifying that pressure tests for over 3,000 service lines were correctly documented.
“With this project, we will be able to have more customers on our system and provide greater service to them,” Quan said. “That’s a win-win for us because we get to serve more customers and replace older pipes that are out of service.”
Both Bryant and Quan recognize the significance of their roles.
“It impacts communities and has a big effect on them,” Bryant said. “It’s nice to design something that really impacts people’s everyday lives.”
Quan agrees, highlighting the reliability of natural gas.
“Our impact is huge because almost every single house has a natural gas meter on it,” Quan said. “Out of all of the utilities, natural gas is one of the most reliable.”
As these interns continue their journey, they exemplify ONE Gas’ commitment to excellence in service, innovation, safety and community well-being. Their contributions today lay the groundwork for serving more customers tomorrow.
